Membrane Press Cover and Sealing: The Detail That Determines Efficiency

The cover and sealing directly determine the vacuum efficiency of a membrane press. We explain the importance of this frequently overlooked detail and how to solve it.

The membrane press cover is the component that ensures the vacuum and sealing of the pressing area. When the gasket surface deteriorates, vacuum escapes; this shows up in the pressing as edge lifting, bubbles, and loss of efficiency.

Why is sealing critical?

Vacuum is essential for the membrane to wrap the part completely. A leaking cover lowers pressing quality and leads to energy loss, no matter how good a pin/plate you use.

Under heavy wear the lid is remanufactured: the surface is machined, the seal seat renewed.
Cross-section of a membrane press lid: while the seal surface is intact the vacuum is maintained and full pressing is achieved; once the surface degrades, a vacuum leak lowers the pressure and ruins efficiency.

Signs of deterioration

  • Difficulty reaching the target vacuum value
  • Wear, crushing, or hardening on the gasket surface
  • Recurring edge lifting / bubbles

Solution

We manufacture worn covers from durable material compatible with the original, restoring the gasket surface and sealing. We produce covers for Bürkle, Wemhöner, and Orma presses.
