The family is machined from ⌀12 mm bar stock; its longest variant is MEDA-BSP-80 at 115 mm. Besides turning, the family requires thread turning (10 sizes from M2 to M8) and taper turning. All of it is completed in a single setup, without the part leaving the machine.
The most slender variant is MEDA-BSP-25: 40 mm long at ⌀3.5 mm, a length-to-diameter ratio of 11.4. This ratio is the very reason sliding-head lathes exist. The guide bushing supports the bar immediately beside the cutting point, so there is no deflection; the same part chatters and drifts in diameter on a conventional lathe.
