The family is machined from ⌀20 mm bar stock; its longest variant is MILA-KU-16 at 100 mm. Besides turning, the family requires taper turning. All of it is completed in a single setup, without the part leaving the machine.
The most slender variant is MILA-KU-04: 40 mm long at ⌀6 mm, a length-to-diameter ratio of 6.7. A part this slender needs tailstock support on a conventional lathe. On a sliding-head lathe the guide bushing holds the bar right next to the cutting edge, so the part is machined without a centre.
